KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 23 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Nov. 12 and Sunday.
South Hilo officers arrested a dozen drivers while Kona officers arrested eight and Puna officers arrested three, according to data released Tuesday by the Hawaii Police Department.
So far this year, there have been 967 DUI arrests compared with 1,021 during the same period last year, according to police.
Through mid-day Monday, there have been 27 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 30 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
